The 1.4 Boosterjet turbocharged engine is now combined with Suzuki's Hybrid system which makes your driving more efficient (compared to the equivalent outgoing model) and more enjoyable. Now also available is Suzuki's 1.5 Strong non-plug-in Hybrid engine for Automatic transmission. The combination of hybrid and EV driving experience, as well as an extremely smooth gear shift feeling, provides highly comfortable and relaxing driving.

Full Hybrid Now Available to Order

Suzuki have now launched the 1.5 litre engine with 140V Hybrid in the Vitara SZ-T and SZ5. 

Fitted with Suzuki's latest technology AGS (Auto Gear Shift) automated manual transmission as standard. The higher powered Suzuki Hybrid system consists of a 140V lithium-ion battery and inverter, Motor Generator (known as MGU), a 12V lithium-ion battery as well as a conventional 12V lead-acid battery to power components requiring lower voltage such as lights, instruments and heating / air conditioning. 

The Full Hybrid system has two switchable modes which are Eco and Standard. One switch enables the driver to change between the modes depending on conditions and also increases the frequency of EV driving. In Standard mode operation, the MGU more frequently assists the petrol engine to allow more spirited driving enjoyment.


How does the Hybrid Engine work? 

The Vitara Hybrid engine is a Self-charging engine meaning there is no need for charging points. There is a Lithium-Ion battery that is charged from energy that is usually lost during deceleration and braking. This battery works during the following phases; Electric motor restarts the petrol engine (after engine auto stop), Electric motor assists the petrol engine during acceleration, Electric motor idles the engine and stops fuel injection during low speed deceleration. It helps reduce the CO2 emmisions and improve fuel efficiency (compared to the equivalent outgoing model). The Electric motor also increases engine responsiveness. All of this gives you a great driving experience, whilst getting a few more miles in the tank.
